[part-time] Color Guard Instructor - NORTH JERSEY at Cresskill High School Marching Band (Joe Verderese)

The Cresskill Color Guard for the 2010 season has 23 members and is looking for a second advisor. The guard consists of rifles and flags and has a very old school style. We are looking for someone with a more modern color guard style who can integrate this style with what we already use.

The guard rehearses on Wednesday nights at 7pm and most of our football games are on Friday nights. We also rehearse as a full band on Saturdays. This is a non-competitive band, so there is only one band festival and one parade all year. We also have a 2 week band camp. (3 days/week, double sessions.)

60+ credits required. Guard teaching experience a plus but not a requirement. Drum corps or advanced college color guard experience preferable. Also realize that this year will be a bit of a transition as we try to start teaching an old guard some new tricks.

Our staff includes a director, 2 assistant directors, 1 color guard advisor (at the moment,) 1 drum major coach and a volunteer assistant. Band camp starts on August 17, so if you are interested, reply soon!!

We are a competitive Group 1 band located in West Long Branch, NJ. We have a group of 9-10 color guard members, about half experienced. Practices are generally Tuesday and Thursday nights, 5-7:30pm, as well as Saturday mornings and the usual performances. Band Camp is a must – August 23-27, 10am-1pm and 4pm-8pm.
I am willing to work with someone with light experience, as long as they have the 60+ credits, sub certificate, etc. Pay is a little over $3000.
This is a good job for someone who has an excellent performance background, but doesn’t have a ton of teaching experience (although that would be cool too ;)
